Listening to Place: Spring Ephemerals in the Earles Woodlands
Join Megan Kaminski, author, and professor, for a nature walk and writing workshop inspired by the ephemeral nature of spring at the Earles Woodlands, a KLT protected property.
Connecting with the natural world can provide a wellspring of knowledge and inspiration, enabling us to (re)discover strategies for living in the world, to grieve and heal after loss, and realign our thinking toward kinship, community, and sustainability.
In this beginner-friendly nature walk and writing workshop, we’ll engage in deep listening practices to tap into the knowledge shared by the world around us and the often-unheard wisdom already present in our own bodies and spirits.
As spring brings us longer days and tender green shoots of new life, we’ll listen to the growth occurring all around us to help us clear out the clutter of last year’s dormant period and make way for new life. Participants should bring something to write (and/or draw) with and on.

Wells Farm Celebration & Walk
Join the Wells Farm owners and the Kansas Land Trust for the inaugural Wells Farm Celebration for an afternoon of history, conservation, and inspiration! Participants will experience the rich history and vibrant landscape of this remarkable KLT-protected land.
For six generations (and counting), Ken Lassman’s family has called Wells Farm home. He and his wife, Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg, dedicated 35 years to preserving its 130 acres of restored tallgrass prairie, ecologically significant habitat, and deep cultural and natural heritage.
The event begins at 2 p.m. at Wells Overlook Park’s Polaris Pavilion—an accessible space—where participants will enjoy refreshments and engaging discussions. Ken Lassman will share the farm’s history and habitat significance, Daniel Lassman will outline lifetime prairie and woodland restoration plans, and Caryn Mirriam-Goldberg will explore the healing power of writing from the prairie.
An optional walk on the land begins at 3:30 p.m. Led by Ken Lassman and biodiversity expert Hank Guarisco.
The Wells Farm voluntary conservation project is a proud recipient of a Douglas County Natural and Cultural Heritage grant.
This is a free event with limited capacity. Our programming is only possible because of donors. Please consider supporting the Kansas Land Trust today.
