KLT Partners with Douglas County Open Space

The Kansas Land Trust is partnering with the Douglas County Open Space program to launch a pilot program to demonstrate how land trusts and landowners can achieve shared permanent land protection goals when supported with technical assistance and matching funds from the County. Douglas County staff will support KLT staff with technical assistance to expedite the process of preserving property through conservation easements, the legal tool that KLT uses to conserve land. Matching funding will be available to landowners to alleviate the cost burden that voluntary conservation agreements may present to landowners. “Douglas County views its partnership with the Kansas Land Trust as a chance to ensure that future generations remain connected to conserved areas and benefit from the mutually rewarding relationship with the land,” writes Josie Heimsoth in the Lawrence Journal World article about this partnership. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting collaborative effort!
